Fed; Workforce revolution on attitude to ageing needed - Andrews

Ageing Minister KEVIN ANDREWS says a workforce revolution is urgently needed to changeearly retirement attitudes so Australia can properly address labour shortages.

Mr ANDREWS has opened a symposium in Sydney to discuss Australia's ageing workforce.

He says current attitudes must change if Australia is to prosper in the future.

People are living 20 years longer than they did a century ago, while birth rates are slowing.

Mr ANDREWS told reporters if we don't do more, the labour market in Australia willcontinue to shrink.

He says Australian businesses are taking some major steps to help address the problembut more needs to be done.

He's calling on businesses to work with unions and other employer groups to begin developingan ageless workforce focused on workers' productivity, not their age.
