Sep. 23--Iced Earth leader/guitarist/songwriter Jon Schaffer doesn't do anything halfway.

His most recent band, Iced Earth, has been a torchbearer for '80s-style power metal since the early '90s. Through the commercial heights of nu metal, and the onslaught of metalcore, Iced Earth hasn't wavered much from the sound blueprinted by Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and the New Wave of British heavy metal groups. At most he's updated it by mixing in elements of '80s thrash and the requisite jackhammer drums of modern metal.

Conceptually, Schaffer thinks big the band has had several concept albums, including one dedicated to comic book …
