SALT LAKE CITY, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The computer industry's leading PC Card manufacturer, U.S. Robotics Corporation (Nasdaq: USRX), today introduced the new Megahertz model XJ4336 PC Card for notebook computers and handheld computing devices, featuring 33.6 Kbps speed -- the fastest modem speed available based on V.34 standard.

In addition to faster transmission speeds, the new Megahertz XJ4336 PC Card is the industry's first PCMCIA cellular-capable modem to offer telephony features such as Caller ID and answering machine capability. And Megahertz is the only brand to feature the exclusive XJACK(R) connector system.

"We continue to lead the mobile connectivity industry during a time of fast growth by understanding our customers requirements and delivering the quality products and functionality they demand," said Robert Bauer, vice president of marketing for U.S. Robotics Mobile Communications Corp., a subsidiary of U.S. Robotics Corporation. "Our next generation of PC Card modems, the XJ4336, establishes a new level of speed, simplicity and reliability, enabling users to quickly access complex files, the Internet and online information services."

In addition to increased speed, the Megahertz XJ4336 meets mobile users' converging technology needs, by combining an array of telephony functions with an already feature-rich PC Card modem.

Adding the convenience of local caller ID service -- where available -- and digital telephone answering machine functions, the XJ4336 PC Card helps mobile and SOHO (small office home office) users simplify their work, by extending the communication capabilities of their laptop computers and eliminating the need for additional telecom equipment.

All Megahertz-brand PC Card modems come with a five-year warranty and access to free technical support (801-320-7777). For sales information, customers can contact U.S. Robotics Mobile Communications at 800-LAPTOPS (800-527-8677), or send e-mail to salesinfo@mhz.com.
