JAPAN'S SOFTBANK DOUBLING ACCESS SPEED FOR FASTER ADSL SERVICE.

TOKYO, June 23 Asia Pulse - Softbank Corp. (TSE:9984) plans to more than double the maximum connection speed of its ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line) Internet service, dubbed Yahoo BB, as early as next month.

By employing a new modem, Softbank will offer subscribers a maximum access speed of 26Mbps for Internet connection, IP (Internet Protocol) telephone service and wireless LAN (local area network) service.

Other service providers are also expected to nearly double the maximum connection speeds of their mainstay 12Mbps ADSL services in or after July. But Softbank, along with Acca Networks Co., is to offer the fastest maximum speed in the industry.

Softbank will open subscriptions for the new service on Wednesday through its Web site at http://www.yahoo.co.jp, with monthly charges of some 3,800 yen (US$32), up 300 yen from the existing 12Mbps service. Subscribers will be charged 990 yen a month separately for access to wireless LAN service.
